Meet the team – Apprentice Test Technician Vlad Mereacre

We caught up with LRW’s newest recruit, Apprentice Test Technician Vlad Mereacre, to find out how he’s settling into working at the LRW Test and Engineering Centre (LTEC), what his role involves and his future aspirations.

What are you studying?

I’m studying for a Level 4 Test Technician apprenticeship. I spend one day a week at Milton Keynes College, with the rest of the week working for LRW.

The apprenticeship runs for three and a half years. I’m currently in my first year, which started this September.

How are you finding balancing study and work?

The work is great. It’s a little harder fitting the studying into one day a week, but it’s manageable and I’m well supported by the LRW team.

What made you apply to LRW?

I saw the apprenticeship opportunity advertised and applied because LRW looked a great organisation to work for and learn from. It was ideal for me as I’m specialising in automotive engineering and am really passionate about the industry.

What’s a typical day like at LRW so far?

We have a morning meeting to confirm the plan for the day. I work closely with Vehicle Test Facility Manager David Tang, and Vehicle Test Technician Trevor Jones in the LTEC vehicle test cells.

I’m currently supporting the team with setting up cars for emissions testing. This involves putting them on the correct drive trace and then setting the vehicle up on the dyno.

We work on some incredible cars, and I really like the environment here. Everyone has high standards and the team is very honest, so it’s a really good place to learn.

Would you class yourself as a petrol head?

Yes, I enjoy tuning and working on cars. I have a Volkswagen Passat which broke down recently, so I’ve been busy fixing that!

What are your future career plans?

My goal is to become a qualified Test Technician, and I’d love to continue working for LRW.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

When I’m not studying, I enjoy playing football and going to the gym.
